Make Your Handmade Soap Last Longer—My Easy Home Tips

From my bench to your sink
I make soap for real families (including mine), so I’m all about small, easy changes that keep your bars feeling great and lasting longer. Here are the tips I use at home.
1) Give your bar a breath between uses
Water is wonderful—but not for storage. Let your bar dry out between uses and it’ll keep its shape and last longer.
Use a draining dish or a soap lift (anything that keeps the bar out of standing water).
In shared showers, rotate two bars so each gets a break.
2) Right bar, right job
Match the bar to the moment. A firm, long-wearing bar is perfect sink-side for frequent hand-washing. For showers, pick the scent and feel you love—you’ll use it consistently, which keeps the rest of the routine simple.
3) Try “half bars”
If you like a fresh feel more often, cut a bar in half and keep the second half wrapped in a cool, dry place. It’s the easiest “refill.”
4) Store extras like pantry goods
Keep spare bars in a cool, dry cabinet away from direct sun. Good airflow is your friend.
5) Pair with the right accessories
A soft washcloth or a gentle soap saver pouch can boost lather without over-using product. Rinse accessories and let them dry, too.
6) Mind the seasons (and the mailbox)
Warm weather can soften certain products during travel. I pack orders with care, and I recommend bringing packages inside promptly—especially in summer. (There are some products that I may not ship over the warm months-especially during the hot Florida months, because what you will probably receive is a messy thick liquid, instead of nice fluffy whipped tallow)-In any case- if any of the products melt- just pop them in the fridge to help them get back into shape.
7) Keep it fun and simple
Rotate scents by mood or time of day (bright citrus in the morning, cozy woods at night). When something feels good, you’ll actually use it—and that’s the real win.
If you ever want a recommendation for your sink, shower, or a gift, send me a note. I’m happy to match you with “the one.”
